ITPI journalSummary: A lot of international and national literature on cities reveals application of newer methods. Major Indian cities have been covered by different researchers but mainly through a case study approach. Ethnographic studies also dominate the literature on cities. Coffee-table books have been a popular literature tracing the development of such cities from their ancient past to modern existence. Some serious attempts have been undertaken to plot the evolution of a city from policy angle and through a lens of economic development. This paper makes an attempt to study literature by researching different cities world over and from India in order to find out new trends of studying socio-political-economic aspects of a city.
